Apple has given a series order to the nine-episode sci-fi series starring Edgerton based on Blake Crouch's bestselling novel of the same name about the "road not taken." Crouch will serve as showrunner. Edgerton, who stars on the upcoming Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi, will play Jason Dessen, who is described as a “physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.” Apple TV+'s Dark Matter is not to be confused with the Syfy series Dark Matter that aired for three seasons from 2015 to 2017.
