Disney+ is close to putting into development a comedy that would reunite the Oscar-winning actress, who is deaf, with Switched at Birth creator Lizzy Weiss. The potential series would be based on the childhood of Matlin's longtime interpreter, Jack Jason. Life and Deaf follows a kid "growing up in the 1970s with deaf parents -- and the mischief that ensues when, as their ears and mouthpiece, he is given the ‘keys to the kingdom," according to Deadline. Patrick Heaton will serve as an executive producer. Matlin recurred on 46 episodes of Weiss' 2011-17 ABC Family/Freeform series Switched at Birth. More recently, Matlin has had roles on Quantico and The Magicians.
