At the end of Lovato's performance of her anti-Trump song "Commander in Chief," NBC's broadcast of the Billboard Music Awards was supposed to show the background video boards light up to reveal the word "VOTE" in giant letters. But the "VOTE" message was edited from Wednesday's broadcast, instead ending on a close up of Lovato at the piano. TMZ, which obtained footage of the unaired visual, reports that NBC pulled the plug on the "VOTE" message because the song itself was a slam on Trump and the "VOTE" message was a call to vote against him. Meanwhile, as Variety points out, NBC's social media team was apparently unaware that "VOTE" had been edited out. The @NBC Twitter account tweeted an image of the "VOTE" message behind Lovato. NBC has yet to officially explain why "VOTE" was edited out.
