True Colors Preview Shows Saved By The Bell Got Something Right

A.C. Slater a trailblazer? In fact, yes. In this extended clip from the Peacock docuseries True Colors, Mario Lopez reflects on how his how his oh-so-90s teen sitcom Saved By the Bell was among the first works of mainstream media to portray the unique identity struggles of Latinx Americans.

Included are clips of Slater being befuddled when a Latina student assumes he speaks Spanish, and discovering that his father felt he had to hide his heritage to succeed. We also see Lopez interviewing his ownl parents, Mario Sr. and Elvira, about how he got his start in the industry.

True Colors is now streaming on Peacock.
